Food Hub

chop, dice, wash, bag, refrigerate, freeze, bake, sauté, rise . . .

The Working Landscapes Food Hub helps local farmers and food businesses sell products to regional consumers. We are building the missing infrastructure that helps growers reach new markets, while simultaneously increasing access to healthy, local food that is not otherwise available in our community.

The Food Hub has two locations: the ByWay Foods Produce Center, a fresh-cut produce processing facility, and the Main Street Kitchen, a shared-use commercial kitchen. Both were long-vacant commercial buildings in downtown Warrenton that we have repurposed to help grow our region’s food economy.

HOW CAN OUR FOOD HUB HELP YOU?

Whether you are a farmer, entrepreneur, school nutrition program, or other food service provider, Working Landscapes can help you with your business development or culinary needs. Our food hub offers the following services:

Farmer Assistance & Value Chain Development

  • We assist farmers in attaining the food safety certifications and developing the supply chains necessary to serve regional markets.

Fresh Cut Produce Processing: ByWay Foods

  • In our produce processing facility, the only one of its kind in the region, we chop and bag locally-grown vegetables for school cafeterias and other food service providers. Our fresh-cut products include collard greens, kale, cabbage, sweet potatoes and romaine lettuce. This facility is currently under renovation–we are expanding to serve our community with a larger mix of products and the ability to process products at a higher volume. We look forward to launching our expanded product line soon. Thanks for your patience as we expand!

Cold Storage

  • Our hub’s cold storage facilities are available to local farmers who need to keep their produce chilled prior to delivery. Our forklift can load pallets directly from our coolers onto delivery trucks. Cold storage facilities are available even while our processing facility is under renovation.

Main Street Kitchen

  • Food entrepreneurs can prepare their products in our fully equipped, shared use commercial kitchen..
