Food Hub
We’ve built the facilities, services and products that connect local farmers to regional markets.
We’ve built the facilities, services and products that connect local farmers to regional markets.
We have repurposed the historic site of a cotton gin and flour mill as Working Landscapes’ food hub, home of ByWay Foods! Our facilities include a state of the art vegetable processing facility where we dice, wash and bag a variety of produce from local farms. We also operate a commercial kitchen where we produce frozen meals for area seniors, and host a vibrant downtown business, Drip Coffee + Market. We offer refrigerated and frozen cold storage, a loading dock, and a forklift.
We are also developing a composting program, which will turn 100% of our food waste into a beneficial soil amendment by late 2021.
We are proud to be working in partnership with Loaves and Fishes food pantry to provide frozen storage for COVID food assistance programs.
We help farmers attain food safety certifications necessary for serving wholesale markets. We also work across the region and with a variety of partners to develop value chains that connect local farm products to regional markets. We can also assist farmers with grant writing for on-farm improvements, provide introductions to regional food distributors, and help envision how your land and agricultural practices can help address the climate crisis and promote soil health.
ByWay Foods is Working Landscapes’ brand of prepared foods. ByWay Foods products make fresh, healthy local food easy and accessible. It includes fresh-cut vegetables (like chopped collards or diced sweet potatoes) and prepared meals. We source transparently from local and regional farms, and aim to make it as easy as possible for institutions to provide the highest quality food to their clients.
We are committed to food safety. Read our food safety policy.
